What the days actually look like
The work is close to home
Newberg, Dundee, McMinnville, Carlton, Yamhill, Garibaldi, Portland, Beaverton and Hillsboro are the towns we are in most, and Dundee is where we are based. We travel out to the coast and to the Portland edge regularly, but the day-to-day is this valley.
You will not be doing one thing
Customers don't have to coordinate several different contractors when we can handle the work ourselves. That is the pitch to customers, and it is also what the job is actually like: the same crew cuts the pad, compacts the base, pours the concrete and trenches the utilities. Nobody stands around waiting on another trade to show up.
The standard is the whole business
We show up, communicate, and stand behind our work. It is a small outfit with a real reputation in a small valley, which means the work is checkable and everybody's name is on it.

The phone is the better one, and it is not close. The best people in this trade have a truck, a set of hands and no résumé — call and talk to Patrick, and you are further along than any form gets you.

What people ask before they call
Where a job is listed here, it says what it actually needs, and where it names a ticket or a certification that one is not negotiable. Everything else is a conversation — plenty of good people in this trade learned it on a crew rather than in a classroom. If you are not sure whether you are close enough, call and ask rather than deciding it for us.
Boots and the usual personal gear, yes. Beyond that it depends on the role, so ask when you call — we would rather tell you than have you buy something you did not need.
Ask Patrick directly and get that one in his words rather than ours. Concrete and excavation in this valley genuinely slow down in the wet months — any contractor who tells you the weather makes no difference is selling you something — and what that means for a particular job is his answer to give, not ours to guess at. Concrete runs on a pour schedule rather than a fixed clock, so start times shift, and where you report changes with where the work is — Newberg, Dundee, McMinnville, Carlton, Yamhill, Garibaldi, Portland, Beaverton and Hillsboro are the towns we are in most, and we travel past them regularly. The specifics come with an offer, not before one.
We ask on the form because for most of what we do it matters — the work moves around the valley and somebody has to get to it, often with a truck or a trailer behind them. Whether a particular role strictly requires one is Patrick's call, so it is worth asking rather than counting yourself out.
Faster if you call than if you use the form.
