Where we work

Concrete Contractor in Carlton, OR

Carlton is a twenty-minute run from the shop, and small enough that we have usually already done work for somebody a customer knows. In January we poured a slab foundation here with the heat built into it.

Carlton is a twenty-minute run from the shop and small enough that we have usually already done work for somebody a customer knows. In January we poured a slab foundation on a lot here, and it is a good example of what we actually do. Before the concrete went anywhere near it the pad was excavated, graded and compacted, a vapor barrier laid over it, and a full rebar mat set up on chairs. Then the radiant-heat tubing went in — loops of PEX tied down across the whole mat, so the finished floor is heated from inside the slab rather than blown at from a vent. That detail is worth understanding, because it is the part that cannot be added afterwards. Radiant heat is poured in or it is not there. It also means the slab has to be right the first time: the tubing pressure-tested before the pour, the mat held at the correct height so it does not end up sitting on the barrier or poking out of the surface, and the finish flat enough to live on. We poured it in January, in the rain, and it came off the trowel clean. Otherwise we do the same work in Carlton that we do everywhere else — driveways, patios, footings, shop floors, drainage and the excavation underneath all of it. If you are in Carlton and you want somebody to come and look at something, that is a short drive for us.

What we do here

The work we do most in Carlton

  • A complete new driveway still curing damp, running from a rounded street approach across a wide slab to the garage of a house under construction, with a stepped concrete walkway climbing alongside it and traffic cones and caution tape across the approach

    Driveways

New driveways, and tear-out-and-replace on the ones that have finally given up. We haul the old one away and rebuild the base, because the base is why it failed.

  • A wide, freshly poured concrete patio curving around the back of a house, still damp and broom-finished, running out under a newly framed covered porch with exposed rafters and timber posts

    Patios

Patios, walkways, entries and stoops, from a plain broom finish to exposed aggregate. Poured over a base we built ourselves, with the fall worked out before the forms go up.

  • A finished poured foundation for a house — perimeter stem walls, interior bearing walls and crawlspace vents, with stripped form lumber stacked around it

    Foundations

Footings, stem walls and slab-on-grade for houses, additions, shops and outbuildings — dug, formed, poured and finished by one crew, on the framer's schedule.
