Where we work

Concrete Contractor in Portland, OR

Portland is where the lots are steep, the houses are old and the concrete has to be structural before it can be anything else. Two jobs in the city we can show you end to end: a formed and reinforced wall poured in place against a cut bank, and a sand-finish patio and walkway on the other side of town.

Portland work is not the same work as a flat lot in the valley, and pretending otherwise is how people end up paying twice. On a steep street here we cut into the bank, poured a footing, stood the forms, tied the full mat of reinforcement and placed a concrete wall in one piece against the cut — then poured the pad at its foot in the same job, so there was no coming back a second time and no seam between two contractors' work. The other job in the city started with a machine and finished with a broom: we dug the back out, formed circular planter beds and a curving walkway, and placed a sand-finish surface bordered with a brick soldier course that the homeowner had picked. Between the two of them you can see the whole range on one page — excavation, formwork, reinforcement, structural placement and a decorative finish — which is the actual reason to call one outfit instead of three. If your lot slopes, tell us that first; it changes the estimate more than the square footage does.

Where we cover around town

  • The close-in east side
  • Steep streets in the west hills
  • Older housing stock with basements
  • Out along the 99W corridor toward Tigard

What we do here

The work we do most in Portland

  • A finished poured foundation for a house — perimeter stem walls, interior bearing walls and crawlspace vents, with stripped form lumber stacked around it

    Foundations

Footings, stem walls and slab-on-grade for houses, additions, shops and outbuildings — dug, formed, poured and finished by one crew, on the framer's schedule.

  • A wide, freshly poured concrete patio curving around the back of a house, still damp and broom-finished, running out under a newly framed covered porch with exposed rafters and timber posts

    Patios

Patios, walkways, entries and stoops, from a plain broom finish to exposed aggregate. Poured over a base we built ourselves, with the fall worked out before the forms go up.

  • A shop foundation part-built on a cut hillside pad, with plywood and steel forms staked along stepped footings, crushed base rock leveled across the middle and forested hills behind

    Excavation & Site Prep

Site cuts, grading, base rock and compaction, with our own machines and operators. This is the half of a concrete job most concrete companies hand to somebody else.
