Site cuts, grading, base rock and compaction, with our own machines and operators. This is the half of a concrete job most concrete companies hand to somebody else.
Nearly every concrete failure people blame on the concrete started in the dirt. A slab that cracked in a line, a driveway that settled at one end, a patio that pushes water back at the house — those are subgrade problems wearing a concrete costume. So we treat the dirt as the job, not as the thing that happens before the job. We handle site cuts and rough grading, strip and haul-off, structural fill, base rock placed to depth and compacted in lifts, finish grade, and the drainage that has to be sorted before anything gets poured on top. We also do the dirt work that never gets any concrete at all: building a pad, opening up access, cutting in a road, reshaping a yard that has been sending water at a crawlspace for years. It is the half of the job that is genuinely hard to buy locally — most concrete outfits sub the dirt out and most excavators do not finish flatwork. Doing both means the person who compacted your base is the person who has to live with what gets poured on it. That is a much better incentive than a subcontract.

How excavation jobs run
Look at where the water goes
Before grade, before rock, before anything. Most of what a site needs is decided by where water currently runs and where it has to run instead, and that is a ten-minute conversation on site.
Locates and access
Utility locates go in, and we work out how the machine actually gets to the work without taking out your lawn, your fence or your neighbor's patience.
Cut, fill and haul
Strip the topsoil, cut to grade, place structural fill where the cut leaves you short, and haul the rest away. That disposal is already inside the quoted number.
Base rock and compaction
Rock placed to the depth the job calls for and compacted in lifts, then proof-rolled. If a slab is going on top, this is the step that decides how it ages.

Questions about excavation work
On its own, absolutely. Pads, access roads, drainage cuts, regrading a yard, digging out for a shop — plenty of our dirt work never gets a pour. Being able to finish the concrete afterwards is something we can offer; it has never been a condition of the job.
We size it from the soil, the load and the drainage. A garage slab on firm ground and a driveway a loaded truck will turn on are different depths. You will know what we are placing and why before we place it, because it goes on the estimate rather than being assumed.
We do, before we dig. It is free, it is required, and it is the difference between a normal week and a very expensive one. If you know about anything private on the property — an old septic line, a well, irrigation, a buried power run to a shop — tell us, because locates will not find those.
